Blue Medical announces a major step forward in its quest to improve the quality of life of patients with

cardiovascular disease, with the start of the PIONEER trial in which a new safe concept of stent-drug

combination is evaluated. Press release

 

 

PIONEER, as part of a Blue Medical’s clinical program, is the trial that enables for the first time the delivery

of a coronary stent that is mounted on a Drug Eluting Balloon, Pioneer and the evaluation of

the Drug Eluting Balloon Protégé. On placement of the stent and inflation of the balloon a predetermined

load of Paclitaxel is delivered to the vessel wall, through the proprietary innovative DEB technology

of Blue Medical.

 

 

The  Pioneer and  Protégé product does not deliver drug constantly for a long period of time,

as the drug eluting stents do, but a single delivery on inflation / stent placement only and therefore

no long time medication required. The patient’s benefit in comfort is self-evident and in addition
